This week, we are going to look at the front hall closet organization. Now is the time to assess your kids’ winter coat situation and prepare for holiday winter coats in your closet.
This week’s assignment is to clean out your front hall closet and get ready for colder days.
I LOVE to take a closet and create a unique space. Here are some fun closet organization ideas.
This home has 2 hall closets, one in the front of the house and one by the back door.
Since the kiddos were young and this family had a pool, we made this back hall closet into a mini mud room.
Using a storage bench from another room, this cozy spot is great for getting ready to swim or go to school.
Inside the bench is plenty of room for towels or snow pants.
The baskets to the right are the perfect size for little kids’ shoes.
And their front hall closet? Well, that one is for art supplies! You can watch how we created this closet here: Organizing an Art Closet
We saved SO much space in the kitchen by moving all the kids’ art supplies out here.
SO, where do their guests keep their coats? This client has a series of wall hooks that guests already used for coats. And if she didn’t… they could go on a bed!
Remember USE YOUR SPACE! If you have company every week, then by all means have a whole closet for those coats. But if you don’t… think outside the box!

This smaller closet has plenty of room for coats, shoes, a vacuum and hats!
My closet solution was to turn our back hall into a long thin mud room. I LOVE it. It was the best decision ever!
