I was a SHARK on Shark Tank.
I love the show Shark Tank. I get so excited about each idea and business plan. I love to hear the stories about how the product came to be, what need it fulfills and the tenacity of the entrepreneur to see the vision come to life.
Last spring, a University of Cincinnati student contacted me for help with her senior project. She was designing new kitchen cabinets and wanted to bounce ideas off a professional organizer.
In addition to meeting Esther and working with her, I was invited to be a critic for the University of Cincinnati DAPP program (College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning). I was super excited.
I had NO idea how ADVANCED these projects would be! As each business plan was presented, I fell deeper in love with this AMAZING college opportunity in Cincinnati.
Each student presented a business plan, business materials, marketing plan and research to the panel, and we “critiqued” them. I fear to say I learned more in those critiques about business and marketing than have in any other single setting event.
The program standards are super HIGH and each project was at the point of being a viable investable business opportunity. Which is why the critic next to me was there; he was an investor!
As a matter of fact, this project was already in use as a business model. The project was made with the client in mind – and the concept is already sold!
At the end, I was talking to the students and mentioned that it felt like they were on the show Shark Tank, and they agreed!
I was so hopped up on entrepreneur idealism when I left that I called my friend and babbled on and on about the event and being a real life “shark.” So now, every time we talk, she calls me shark, but you can still call me Lisa!
What an amazing experience for the students and myself!
