What’s in your brain at 3 AM?
Once my mind starts spinning – there is NO turning it off.
The last few nights at the beach, I couldn’t sleep. I had SO many ideas of things I wanted to do, things I HAD to do and just… thoughts.
SO I got up and wrote them all down.
I don’t “relax” well and ultimately come back from the beach with a bigger to-do list than I started with.
This year was no exception. I feel like I am racing against time to do all that I want to do in my business, home and family.
My kiddos are 12 and 13 – My hands-on, in-home parenting is 2/3 of the way done. AGH!
My business is entering year 5. So many seeds are growing and coming into harvest. I LOVE what I am doing. I am entering a new stage of networking and growth that is beyond what I have experienced in my other companies.
My home is great. Years of purging and organizing have me right at the finish line. I am ready to put in one more year of focused tweaking to really have our home running at peak efficiency.
What’s the rush?
Seriously, I plan to live until I’m 100+ so what’s the big deal about the 2013-2014 school year?
It’s a “known.” I say that loosely. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, but I know next year my schedule will be much different. My kids will be in separate schools, and I will most likely be driving 3 hours a day to and from those schools.
The high school day is shorter, too. So my luxurious 45 hour work week will be gone in the blink of an eye.
This year, my kiddos catch the bus at 6:50 AM and return at 4 PM.
Next year, I will be lucky if I can work from 8:30 -2.
Now’s the time.
I have been working a ton on my kiddos’ future this summer and planning for high school.
I have also made awesome blogging goals and plans for my businesses.
THIS is the year to tweak the house.
I have a lovely home. We have lived here 17 years. We do not plan on moving anytime soon.
I have been purging and organizing like crazy. 18 months ago I set out to organize my WHOLE house in 40 days. And I did – kinda.
It also made me realize that organization comes in waves and stages. The first pass through you might get rid of 20%. The next time another 20% and on and on.
I also realized I can’t organize myself like I can organize you.
The 40 days 1 WHOLE house challenge was for ME. It was the start of this blog. The posts need to be edited, the pictures are horrible, but it is a reflection of my personal journey – so I have left it alone.
I am a different person now. I am a different organizer now. And this year, I want to revisit that challenge…
As a teacher…
As a participant…
And as an encourager.
Is this your time?
Is this the year you want to carve out time to take back control of your home from your stuff?
Why? How much time?
There is no right answer.
For some of you, 20 minutes a week to pitch 20 things will be your goal in each room.
Others may want to invest one day a week.
Some of you may be like me – in a transition year. Is this your first year at home with the kids off to school? Is this your last year before entering the work force? Has your last child just started high school, college or left the nest?
What vision do you have for your home? How much time do you have to invest in that?
I really don’t think this is going to take money… it’s time.
What will you give up to get the time? I’m not sure about that one for me…
We aren’t going to do THIS challenge in 40 days – this one we will do in 40 weeks. ONE school year.
Are you ready? Let’s go!
Check back Monday for our action plan.
