Let me read your mind. Have you wondered…. should you hire help?
Why do I need to hire a virtual assistant, editor, professional organization business partner…?
I thought so. Let me try to explain.
I have BIG dreams.
Right now, I keep thinking about what an organizational TV show would look like…
I FOR SURE want to be a national direct sales speaker and trainer. My ideas are out of the box and counter cultural, which makes me a little nervous, but they WORK. Like –always.
I know I can bless SO many in the direct sales field.
I can’t do it all.
Seriously, we all know my editor is a MUST!! You, my readers, have been telling me that all the way back when there were just a handful of you!
You know, in the past I would hire someone to clean my house so I could spend more time working. And I hope to be able to do that again someday. I would also hire babysitters and spend more on meals out.
But this time was different.
I guess my dreams are SO big that I know I can’t do it alone.
Can I do some of the tasks I am hiring out? Yes.
Do I have the income to hire these people? Yes and No. This summer all my profits went to pay for help.
Was it worth it? YES!!
Why in the world are you paying for things you can do and really can’t afford?
Have you ever had a cleaning service for your home? What do you do the day before they come? You run around like a crazy person straightening and organizing your home.
You work like crazy so they can work like crazy for you.
How long would it take you to do both your side of the cleaning and theirs?
For me, I can get ready to have my house cleaned in 1 hour. If I do that PLUS the whole house cleaning it is 8 hours – every time.
AND if you cancel the cleaning service and “do it yourself,” do you do it every 2 weeks? I don’t. I have toilets and showers that can attest to that fact.
In the past, it was worth it to take those 7 saved hours and pour them into my business. It worked.
Now, it is worth it to know each person is counting on editing 5-10 posts/emails or working 5 hours.
I may not be making a predictable income – but they are.
And doing what I am best at – which is writing and training- allows me to do more of that. On my own, I was lucky to offer 2-3 blog posts a week.
Now I post 5-7 times a week, including guest posts and newsletters, and I wrote another eBook!
So what’s different now?
I am receiving more and more emails saying, “This is exactly what I have been looking for.”
I am literally watching women start living their dreams after coaching sessions.
Honestly, I keep thinking I need to PICK blogging, organizing or training, but it is the synergistic effect that is having so much impact on those around me. We start with organizing someone’s home, and then that person is able to start a business. Or they start in direct sales training and then are ready to organize the home.
I don’t know how to explain it, but I know all this is supposed to be together.
This week alone, 3 people have asked me to help them find a direct sales business. These are all close friends. I was blown away by each one. It was totally out of the blue and off my radar. My response each time? YES you can do a direct sales business!!
WOW! I knew I wanted to help those IN direct sales brand themselves. I am surprised, but I shouldn’t be, that more women DO want to own their own businesses and have never said anything.
I really feel there is a need for a knowledgeable direct sales consultant who is NOT tied to one company to help women choose a business that fits their life and goals.
I have too many ideas.
Seriously. If you put me in a hotel for 6 months without internet access, I have enough pictures and stories already collected to be able to write a new blog post every day.
I can’t keep up with my ideas and your requests. I know that I will be doing this for a long time, and I am figuring out the most logical way to present all of the ideas I have – and am inspired by each day.
I don’t feel that this business is just for ME.
I can’t really even explain this well. But I know this business is going to be bigger than me. I know I will need help.
When I look a few years down the road – just my dream of speaking at national conventions is HUGE. I would need help with my kids, travel arrangements and preparing slides.
That dream alone is big enough to need help.
But that’s not my dream. It’s PART of my dream. I really feel that God is growing my business in a fashion that is allowing me to slowly add the people needed to grow in the future.
You mean you have people who only work for you for 5 hours a week?
Yep, and some work 2 or 3. Five hours is the most. I think that was the biggest hurdle I crossed 12 years ago when I hired my first assistant. I have never had anyone work more than 5 hours a week for me – yet.
I hire each person to do what they love for me in the hours they have available. And the hope is that if I grow – they will want more hours.
Wouldn’t it be easier to have one person work 10-15 hours than 5 people?
Nope. I am pretty sure my editor doesn’t want to help me with Pinterest and my Pinterest person doesn’t want to do my bookkeeping.
Because I am building a team, I all the members to be doing what they love best.
I bet you have more questions. Go ahead and leave those in the comments.
In my experience, you will focus more on the work that brings you results when you hire someone to do the things you must do, but that zap your business energy.
You were created to build your brand and share your message – but you don’t have to do that alone!
