Strategic Business partners ~ a New Do

My aunt has been trying to help me update my image. I am a tough bird. I really didn’t see the problem, but more to the point, I couldn’t “see” the solution.

It is really hard to make a change when you don’t know what the outcome will be.

I thought I was really stepping things up a notch a few years ago when I started getting highlights in my hair.

At Thanksgiving my aunt wanted to get my hair cut, but her hair dresser didn’t have any appointments. {Thank Goodness!} She mentioned a short cut.

I know my aunt. Once she is set on something it’s a matter of time before I cave.

But…

I don’t like short hair.

Short hair takes too long to do.

My hair is too fine for short hair.

And on and on I went in my head

A few more key events pushed me to the tipping point. I could keep my SAME haircut I had for my WHOLE life and convince people I was a NEW professional person with NEW ideas.

OR – I could take a risk and update my look to match the updated business I was creating.

What the heck, I had an electronic calendar, I was using new business cards, I needed a new do.

I bumped into a GREAT hair dresser I had only met 2 other times in the past year that same day. I took one look at her and said, “Tia! YOU could give me a new look!”

I loved Tia’s hair and the way she decorated her home. I loved how she doted on her son and husband. I just knew she could make this happen.

2 days later I was sitting in her chair. ~Nervous with an odd calmness~

Yes, I was going to do this.

No, I had no clue what we were doing.

Yes, it would be ok.

Tia started scrolling through pictures of Meg Ryan. She said these were a good place to start.

I said “Go for it!” and she chopped off about 4 inches. Eeek!

Next were 2 dyes. I never wanted to add brown to my hair because I loved being blonde. But I was done trying to micro manage everything about me. Whatever Tia wanted to do – I would do.

After the coloring she started cutting and cutting and cutting. And then she cut some more!

My poor $3 bottle of shampoo, conditioner and hairspray were no match for the transformation that was unfolding.

A new arsenal of products and brushes would be on my shopping list for tomorrow!

It turns out that the natural wavy curl in my hair is great for short hair. And product can do amazing things for hair!

Lisa!!!! It’s gorgeous! You look vibrant and very professional. It suits your face really well, too. You look like a million bucks! Congrats for being brave and taking the plunge. That’s a hard thing to do, especially with hair.
