In this episode, I introduce you to Meredith D. who lives at home with her oldest son and her husband. Meredith first saw a presentation about the Sunday Basket® and was intrigued with being able to level up her paper organizing and organizing her time. Once her mom had passed and she was getting her Father’s affairs in order that paper became a lot. She decided she needed a better way to organize all her “pots”.
Meredith had always been an organized person. When she started to execute her role as executor (being the oldest of 8) she knew she needed to do something to level up her skills. She’d cleaned out her parents home and got it ready to sell in six months. She’d tried the Home Edit at her house and the clear containers are great for her family but she didn’t feel “leveled up.” With the Sunday Basket® and Planning Days she learned how to better organize her time. Meredith likes planning ahead instead of things popping up and having to be reactive. But what she really loved was delaying dealing with the paper to just one day a week. The cognitive load that was freed up from that simple action was great for Meredith.
Meredith opened up to what it has been like to care for her oldest son who is disabled. We talked about how she learned about services in her area as he was in school. Meredith shared how different states provide different supportive services. Meredith always found a community of parents that supported and educated each other as far as options that are available. She knows families who have moved to another state just to receive better support. We talked about the differences in your child being in school and supportive services once they have graduated. Her son is beyond the Warrior Mama binder but she does keep a binder for him. She agrees that hard copies of tests and diagnosis are still very important despite digital options.
Meredith’s mom gifted her the book “Confessions of a Housewife” on her wedding day, where Meredith learned to create her own planner. We talked about what those planners looked like. Turns out Meredith really is a quite organized person. Meredith’s mom used to say “We just live from crisis to crisis.” And Meredith didn’t want to live like that. We talked about how you take the tasks you need to do, place them into routines, and those routines become habits. The fewer systems the better. The longer the system doesn’t change the better. She shared how she kept the four children she had in seven years, organized. There were systems in place. When you have the sunday Basket® and The Productive Home Solution in play all you have to parrot is “that’s a Sunday Basket® thing” or “that’s a binder thing.”
She has so much more time for crafting now! She also enjoys helping at her church, sewing, swimming, taking charge of her health, projects around her house, or Netflix and chill with her hubby of 40+ years.. The reality is the time the Sunday Basket® gives back to your life allows you to chase whatever interests you have at the time because your daily responsibilities are managed.
Meredith’s advice is, “Get the Sunday Basket®. Then get The Productive Home Solution™ next.”
