ORGANIZING PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS

how-to-organize-prescription-medication

I shared with you tips and tricks for organizing your child’s special needs. Then, I walked you through how I have made a binder for each of my kid’s medical and special needs. And, I’ve talked about medical deductions. Today, I am finishing out this series by talking about prescription medicine.

I am WAY over the fact that our family takes drugs. I have spent a small fortune and tens of thousands of hours on research and alternative therapies and supplementation.

I am happy with the blend of natural and synthetic treatments we are using to live the best life we can. Seriously, I have a stupid amount of knowledge in the medical areas that pertain to my kids.

The doctors and I have a true partnership, and they respect my research as much as I do theirs. We discuss trends in treatments and drugs. I do not feel the least bit guilty that I am using the best science has to offer to treat my family.

Each medical decision is made independent of the last. We did not get the flu vaccine. We did not take the doctor’s recommendation of the last medication change. Actually, they took mine.

We have eliminated dairy again with Abby and are seeing medical benefits.

We MAMAs  are way too valuable to our families to waste a second of our time judging or “suggesting” courses of action for another MAMA.

I am a Warrior MAMA on a journey just like you. 🙂

OK, so on to how to organize said pharmaceuticals.

I divide out the kids’ meds on Sunday night for the week. Having colored weekly pill containers really helps in quickly determining which pills are AM and PM and whose are whose. We mixed that up once and that was a scary 24 hours!

I have a big container that holds ALL of the supplements and pharmaceuticals for the week.

On the top of each bottle is the initial of whose med it is and the proper dosing.

As I fill up the weekly pill dispensers, I make sure I have 2 weeks or more left of that item for next week. Bottles that are lower than that are set aside.

After the dispensers are full, I call in prescriptions of low bottles and put supplements that are running low on our to-buy list.

Unfortunately, there are very few weeks I am not calling something in. You can’t stockpile prescription medication!

When I have a doctors appointment where we are going to make a medication change, I take all of that child’s prescriptions to the appointment with me. Medication changes when you are taking a cocktail of medicines can take weeks. We use an automatic pill dispenser for our kids.
