HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL

roadblocks-to-organization-hazardous-waste-disposal

There is no way around it. Getting organized and maintaining that order is WORK. More work than I care to admit.

Sure, I save tons of time by being organized, but I resent having to spend any of that time maintaining the order.

It’s like I want the order to magically sustain itself.

Once you get going in this “getting organized” groove, you will come across some organizational roadblocks like…

How do you declutter hazardous waste?

Old cleaners, paint cans, old mixed gas and oil… these are the items that linger in our homes longer than others.

You can’t pitch ‘em.

You don’t want to use them.

And getting rid of them takes time, effort, and preparation. Today, I am putting in the effort to rid our home of these pesky clutter items that have long outstayed their welcome!

Go on a scavenger hunt! I am going room to room, searching every cabinet, closet, and under every sink to find hazardous waste to declutter! Most communities have a hazardous waste recycling program in the summer that is FREE. In Butler County, Ohio, it is on Thursdays. To find out what your city offers, Google your county name and the words “hazardous waste.” I am planning on going Thursday to recycle our waste. Here is what I have found…
Two jugs of anti-freeze
Two jugs of anti-freeze. I believe these were brought into our marriage 18 years ago. I don’t even know who would use them.
Mixed oil and gas
Mixed oil and gas.
bulb
A burned out new light bulb.
Paint solvents
Paint solvents, lacquers and thinner. Seriously, I am not going to “thin” paint. {A couple of weeks ago, I talked about getting rid of old paint.}
Pesticides
Pesticides.

Just when I thought I was done, I opened the car wash cabinet. {Ask me when the cars were last washed, let alone by us!}

Hubby would only purge half. So if my tires aren’t gleaming, you know it’s not from a lack of product!!

Here’s my full box. Boy, there’s a lot of “weight” in this box. Guilt, frustration, and just weight.
